The Evolution of Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto

I’ve been a fan of Grand Theft Auto since its first part, which was released in 1997, and to date, whenever I play any of GTA’s parts, nostalgia hits me hard.

You cannot even imagine how obsessed I am with the GTA series, whether it’s Vice City or its San Andres, none of the parts have ever disappointed me in terms of storyline or anything. I believe this series is one of the biggest inventions of Rockstar Games to date.

GTA VI is coming out next year, and I’m super excited for this part. It will be available on PS5 initially. The game will consist of two basic modes: single player, which will not require an internet connection to work apart from the initial download.

And the second mode will be the online multiplayer mode, which heavily relies stable and fast connection for an uninterrupted gaming experience.

I really want to play the online multiplayer mode, so I contacted Spectrum Servicio al Cliente. Being a Hispanic, I was very impressed by the multilingual customer support they provided. They recommended subscribing to the cable internet plan because it offers a low latency rate and high bandwidth. Enabling the users to have a seamless gaming experience.

Contact your provider now and subscribe to a great internet deal if you want to enjoy GTA VI lag-free.

Being a GTA fan, in this article, I’ve discussed the evolution of GTA, starting from GTA 1 to the upcoming GTA 6.  If you are a true fan, do give it a read, and if you’re not, I’m pretty sure you will be turning into one by the end of it.

Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto Part One was released in 1997. The game was initially released on PC (MS-DOS and Windows) in 1997, and later on the PlayStation in 1998.

The game had a top-down view where players could choose one character and had to complete various missions in a virtual city in a world that was full of crime. The missions in the first part consist of doing a bank robbery, carjacking, and eliminating the opposition.

At any time in the game, the players could approach a vehicle, eliminate he driver, and take control. Players also had access to weapons that included knives and guns, as well the assault weapons like bombs and rocket launchers.

Grand Theft Auto: II

The second part of Grand Theft Auto was released in 1999 for the PlayStation and Windows. Later on, it was released for the Dreamcast and Game Boy Color. It supports multiplayer gaming for up to six players.

GTA 2 was a pure action-adventure game where you could play as a criminal named Claude Speed in a place called Anywhere City. The game was about completing the missions for different gangs to gain respect and rule the underworld.

Just like the first part of the game, the second one also focused on assassination and carjacking.

A core feature of the game is the “respect” system, which tracks the standing of the player with various gangs and actions like helping one gang to eliminate another.

Grand Theft Auto: III

GTA 3 was released for the PlayStation 2 in October 2001. The PC version was released in May 2002, the Xbox version in November 2003, and mobile versions for the tenth anniversary in 2011.

The game does not have any multiplayer feature, although it was planned to be multiplayer, but the idea did not come to being.

GTA 3 revolves around the main character named Claude, who was betrayed by his girlfriend after a bank robbery and was left alone to he could die.

He then seeks revenge by getting involved in criminal activities in Liberty City, which looks like New York.  Players tend to complete missions for different gangs, as shown in the previous parts, like stealing cars and getting involved in heists to get revenge in a world full of crime.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

GTA Vice City was released in October 2002 for PlayStation 2, and then later on it was released for PC and Xbox in 2003. The game is not multiplayer; it is a single-player game.

I won’t lie, but GTA Vice City was the first ever game that I had ever played on PC. I have got so many memories and attachments associated with this game in terms of its characters, maps, its cheat codes, and so many other things.

Vice City is an open-world action game that revolves around the main hero Tommy Vercetti. The game setting shows Miami in 1986.

The game starts when Tommy is released from jail and is sent to Vice City to look after a drug deal, but unfortunately, he loses both his drugs and money. The game shows Vercetti navigating betrayal and making his own empire.

This part introduced many features, like riding motorcycles, flying airplanes, and even driving boats. Vice City was considered a game-changer not just with open-world games, but also in the series itself.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

GTA San Andreas was released in October 2004 for the PlayStation 2. For PC and Xbox, it was released in June 2005. The game does not offer an online multiplayer mode, but some console versions, like PS2, PS3, and Xbox, include a local two-player split-screen mode.

Without any doubt, GTA San Andreas is the most loved game in the entire series.

The game starts in the world of San Andreas, which has three cities: Los Santos, Las Venturas, and San Fierro, inspired by modern-day cities like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.

The game has several customization options ranging from clothing, haircuts, tattoos, body shape, and side activities, and you could spend hours in the virtual world.

 Grand Theft Auto: IV

GTA 4 was released in April 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was later released for Windows in December 2008. The game has a multiplayer mode that varies by platform and version.

The game revolves around an Eastern European war veteran named Niko Bellic who moves to the fictional Liberty City, that based on New York City, to live the American Dream.

The game discusses themes of outcomes of violence and the search for a better life, which involves getting into the underworld to help his friend and escape his past.

Grand Theft Auto: V

GTA V was released in September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. And for Windows, it came out in April 2015.

The story mode of GTA V is single-player, and there is no split-screen or multiplayer option. But if you want to enjoy playing the multiplayer mode, then you should switch to the online mode.

GTA V is an action-adventure game that revolves around three characters: Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. Three of them are criminals who team up for a heist in the state of San Andreas, which is based on Southern California.

The game is an open-world experience where three of them undergo different missions to rule the underworld. The best part of the game is that you can switch characters and play as each of them to complete the missions.

Grand Theft Auto: VI

GTA VI is expected to release in May 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series. The PC version of the game will be released later, based on the traditional patterns of Rockstar games.

According to sources, GTA VI will be about the criminal exploits of Lucia and Jason, set in the fictional state of Leonida, based in Florida.

The story follows the two as their relationship and later unfolds through a “Bonnie and Clyde-style” narrative.

Players will switch between the two characters, experiencing their story from different perspectives.

And that’s a wrap on all the parts of GTA, starting from 1997 and continuing to date. Being a GTA fan, all of these parts have a special place in my heart, from its characters to its map. The game has drastically evolved throughout the year by not disappointing its fans.

Part VI is coming out next year, and I hope it’s going to be worth all the hype.
